Seven miles distant are Sutton Bank, with panoramic views over the Vale of York, and the famous 'White Horse' at Kilburn. Within 15 miles are Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle. Further afield in the North York Moors National Park are Hutton-le-Hole (Ryedale Folk Museum) and Pickering with its castle and steam railway to Whitby a fishing port steeped in history. The Yorkshire Coast has wonderful cliff scenery and quaint fishing villages. The Moors are ideal for walkers of all standards.

To the west is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with the fells and valleys of the Pennines also offering a variety of sight-seeing and walking. Within easy reach are the cathedral 'city' of Ripon, the Georgian town of Richmond, with its impressive castle, and Brimham Rocks.
